January, the month named after the Roman god Janus. A god of thresholds between past and future, here and there, he is depicted as having a head bearing two faces staring simultaneously forward and back.

January is a short piece of interactive fiction about parallels that I co-authored with my friend agj last July. We each have strong feelings towards January; Edmonton’s deep freeze for me, and mid-summer in Chile for him. Over the course of a Saturday we each created a contained literary space, and then created links between the two worlds.

I’m not all that happy with my text, but it was an attempt, and a solid one for only a few hours. You can play January in your browser here.

The project was created with Twine.
