Arcadia Hall

Located in Halifax’s historic Hydrostone District, Arcadia Hall provides a performance and gathering space for this tight knit community. By reflecting the Garden City ideals that shaped the district, the rhythm of the adjacent Hydrostone Market, and the local material palette of concrete ‘Hydrostone’ masonry units, and wood, the theatre is strongly rooted in its site.

Three scales of social interaction are acknowledged through the lively plaza in front, expansive lobby within, and intimate gardens to the rear. The meeting rooms and lobby can be used independently of the theatre spaces for community meetings and events, and a high degree of engagement with the community is encouraged through the glazed rear wall of the auditorium, allowing passersby a glimpse of the performance.
