Point Pleasant Pavilion
This pavilion in Halifax’s Point Pleasant Park is designed to house the outdoor Shakespeare by the Sea Theatre Company, while also providing a sheltered space for park goers. Washrooms are located close to the park’s main path allowing for quick access, and there are two concession stalls just outside of the grand space.
The design arose from a desire to reorient the site towards the southeast, away from the industrial area it faced, while also capturing the rich light filtering through the trees to the south. The structure of large glulam beams, with stone columns and a rear stone retaining wall, situate the building within the context of the park: a large forest scattered with historic stone buildings.
